Roam Network joins the peaqosystem
In a nutshell: Roam Network has joined the peaqosystem to provide telecom companies with DePIN-sourced granular insights into their local coverage and signal quality. This positions peaq as a key enabler of global mobile network optimization and growth. Roam lets you receive rewards for providing anonymized insights on the quality of service that will result in better coverage for all.
Bars to tokens
Just since 2016, the amount of mobile data an average North American user burns through per month has skyrocketed from 3.97 GB to 30.3 GB. And with faster bandwidth, hi-res streaming, advanced AI services, cloud computing and gaming, and other technological novelties, that number will keep rising exponentially. In fact, mobile operators are already preparing to scale for demand, with expected investments of around $1.5 trillion between 2023 and 2030.
And while the raw quantity of mobile data a network can handle certainly matters, there’s something to be said about the quality of the service as well. However, the telecom industry still struggles with getting granular insights into the quality of service received by an individual user.
Roam Network has joined the peaqosystem to solve this problem. Roam’s DePIN lets users earn tokens for sharing anonymized insights on the signal they get and helping build granular datasets on mobile coverage. This data is of tremendous value for telecom companies, which get a detailed insight into the quality of service they deliver and can improve their networks accordingly. It is also useful for their enterprise customers, who can streamline their spending on mobile internet. The granularity and cost-efficiency of the insights Roam provides would be almost impossible to achieve without the DePIN model.
With a total of about 5,000 users in the first few months since its app launch, Roam is already present in 149 countries. In the future, Roam will also launch Roam Infra — another DePIN rewarding users for improving their local mobile coverage with specialized hardware.
Integrating peaq as its layer-1 blockchain, Roam will leverage peaq ID as the identity management standard for its DePIN. It will also tap peaq’s integration of Particle Network to enable people to join the DePIN with their regular login credentials, like email or social media handles. Roam will leverage peaq’s data storage and verification frameworks and will issue its token natively on the network.
“The DePIN model offers a perfect solution to a challenge that costs telcos and their clients billions every year. By crowdsourcing the network performance data they need so dearly, we literally turn signal bars into crypto rewards. peaq’s scalability is a crucial benefit in that regard, as it enables us to quickly grow to the critical mass that the industry requires, and peaq’s Modular DePIN Functions take care of some of the most critical DePIN components for us, such as identity and data verification.”
— Michail Angelov, co-founder at Roam Network
“Mobile phones are some of the most ubiquitous devices in the world, and everyone knows how annoying a weak signal can be. Roam Network leverages the Web3 community to build a DePIN that will spare all of us the headache of a poor connection. With that, it also solves real pain points of real-world businesses, advancing DePIN adoption in the enterprise sector and bringing Web3 at the core of another real-world value exchange.”
— Leonard Dorlöchter, co-founder of peaq
